The 23rd Annual Tom Dann Epee Extravaganza

The extravagantly named 23rd Annual Tom Dann Epee Extravaganza is set for Sept. 10, 2017. Registration is open at AskFred. In keeping with the tournament's tradition, replica weapons will be awarded to the top finishers.

The Tom Dann has moved this year to the West Shore Fencers Club, which Tom founded. The club was revived a few years ago by a student of Tom's, Steven Daggs, and now practices at the West Shore YMCA.

Hope to see you there!

The 2017 Keystone State Games

The Keystone State Games took place July 29-30 at the Utz Center in York. The fencing results are posted on AskFred.

Incidentally, we learned from the KSG organizers over the weekend that the games will be leaving York in 2018, possibly relocating to the Poconos area of Pennsylvania. That would place them outside the Harrisburg Division, which means we expect to relinquish our role in organizing the fencing events.

FYI: USFA Collegiate Competitive Memberships

In sanctioned events, all fencers with a USFA "Collegiate Competitive Membership" must be on the current roster for their college, or NCAA team. The USFA must have record of this roster. The college, or NCAA team, must also be a USFA Member or Affiliate club.

To avoid delays in processing ratings changes, it is recommended that tournament organizers send a list of those with a Collegiate Competitive membership to Sarah at s.ross@usfencing.org  before the event. She will compare the organizer's list to hers and notify the organizer of any discrepancies. The organizer must then contact the college team's administrator to request that a current roster be sent to Sarah. Currently, there is no database of college or NCAA team email information. The USFA website has a Clubs list, but only includes a phone number and physical address: https://member.usfencing.org/search/clubs

The Division is considering creating a database of club administrators' names and emails that can be updated and used as a resource. More info will be posted about that in the future.

***6/22/17: UPDATE***
Per the USFA, all Collegiate Competitive Memberships will remain in pending status until it can be confirmed that they are on the roster for their college or NCAA team. Any Collegiate Competitive membership in a pending status is not eligible to compete in any USFA sanctioned tournament.
If such an event should occur, and to preserve the sanctioning of any Harrisburg Division tournament, one may upgrade to Competitive Membership at the tournament. Any discrepancies, or "after the fact" refunds, will be handled by the fencer and the USFA, not the tournament organizers.

USFA Sanctioned Event Update

Per the USFA, 4/6/17:
USA Fencing Sanctioned Events to Require at Least One Rated Referee Beginning Aug. 1, 2017

In Chapter 2.1 of the Athlete Handbook, it states that beginning August 1, 2017 that all USA Fencing sanctioned events must have at least one rated referee.

Also, as of January 1, 2017, all tournament officials must be compliant with the USA Fencing Safe Sport Policy, including maintaining a current background check and completion of the free online Safe Sport training course. Per the USFA, tournament officials include referees, bout committee, armorers, and floor managers.
