The 4 Star Epee Open

Check out the new open epee competition on the division schedule.
It's taking place on Nov. 14, the Saturday after Veterans Day. We're calling it the 4 Star Epee Open in honor of the men and women in America's armed services.
Anyone presenting a military ID, whether active-duty or a veteran, will receive $5 off the entry fee.
This event will be held by Nook Fencing Academy at Spooky Nook Sports Complex, the largest sports complex in North America! In addition to fencing, you can make a day of it...have lunch in one of the restaurants, play games in the arcade, go "clip and climbing"... There are lots of things to do at "The Nook", day passes are available!
The Nook will host the Fifth Annual Peter Folgner Memorial Sabre Tournament the next day, Sunday Nov. 15. Pack your epees and sabres and come out for both!

Keystone State Games 2015

Fencing returned to the Keystone State Games with a splash on Aug. 1 and 2. With nearly 300 entries, and up to 12 strips running at once, it was the largest fencing event ever held in York and the second largest event held by the Harrisburg Division, behind only the 2013 Keystone State Games / State Games of America in Harrisburg.

Competition results are posted on AskFred. Many thanks to our referees, bout committee, armorers, Blue Gauntlet, and to everyone else who helped make the Games a success.

Next year's Keystone State Games are set for July 30 and 31 at the Utz Arena in York. Mark your calendars!

Division annual meeting 2015

The annual meeting of the USFA Harrisburg Division will take place starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at the West Shore YMCA, 410 Fallowfield Road, Camp Hill.

At the meeting, division officers for the  2015-16 year will be elected. The proposed slate is as follows:
  • Chairman: Andy Nightingale
  • Vice Chairman: Tim Stuhldreher
  • Secretary: April Kauffman
  • Treasurer: Dick Kirchoff
  • National Congress Representative: Carol Buerdsell *(There is no longer a National Congress, so this office is obsolete.)
If you would like to nominate an alternate candidate for any office, you may do so at the meeting. If you are unable to attend, you may vote by proxy. Please give your proxy, in writing, to someone who is attending.

The remainder of the agenda will consist of reports on the past year, and planning for the upcoming year.

The latter will include a discussion of proposals by Gary Rusen regarding the Tom Dann epee tournament and the Lebanon Fencing Club's schedule for 2015-16. The full proposal is available here.

If you are planning to attend, it would be helpful if you could RSVP to me at tim.stuhldreher@gmail.com. If you would like to add an agenda item, or you have any questions, please email me as well.

Thank you for your support of the division, and I hope to see you on July 12.

Regards,

Tim Stuhldreher
Chairman
Harrisburg Divsion
